Getting started
Do I have to pay for a trial dance class at MK Dance?
No. MK Dance offers a free, no-obligation trial. It gives you or your child the chance to meet the teacher, experience the class and see whether MK Dance is the right fit before joining. There is no commitment to continue after your trial.
Why should I choose MK Dance for dance classes in Croydon?
MK Dance is an award-winning, family-run dance school offering welcoming and supportive classes for children and adults. With over 20 years of experience, fully qualified teachers and structured programmes across ballet, tap, modern and other dance styles, our focus is on helping every dancer learn, develop, build confidence and have fun.
What age can children start dance classes at MK Dance?
Children can start at MK Dance from age 2. Our mk minis programme is designed for children aged 2 to 4, introducing ballet, tap and modern through creative movement, music, stories and playful exercises. From age 4, children can move into our Main School classes.
Does my child need dance experience before joining MK Dance?
No. Beginners are very welcome at MK Dance. Our classes support children at every stage of their dance journey, whether they are taking their very first class or already have several years of experience. For younger children, mk minis needs no previous experience and gives a gentle introduction to movement and music.
What should my child wear to their first dance class?
For a trial, your child does not need a full MK Dance uniform. Comfortable clothing that lets them move freely is fine for their first class. Once they join, children wear the uniform for their class.
What makes MK Dance different from other dance schools in Croydon?
At MK Dance, we believe there is a dancer in all of us. We combine high-quality, structured dance training with a strong focus on confidence, friendship and fun. Our experienced and fully qualified teachers support dancers at every level, from their very first class through to exams, performances and more advanced opportunities. As a family-run school with over 20 years of experience, we aim to create a genuine dance community where everyone feels welcome and supported.
Classes and progression
What dance classes does MK Dance offer?
MK Dance offers ballet, tap, modern and musical theatre for children, adult ballet and tap classes, and Silver Swans® ballet for adults aged 55 and over. Children can follow structured RAD ballet and ISTD tap and modern programmes, and older dancers can join our MK Associates performance programme.
Does MK Dance offer dance exams?
Yes. MK Dance offers recognised dance examinations in ballet, tap and modern. Our ballet classes follow the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus, and our tap and modern classes follow the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) syllabuses. Exams are optional, and pupils are entered when their teacher feels they are ready and have reached the required standard.
Is MK Dance suitable for shy children or children who lack confidence?
Yes. Building confidence is one of the core aims of MK Dance. Classes are welcoming, encouraging and supportive, helping dancers develop confidence alongside their technical skills. Our ethos focuses on learning and development, friendship and fun, and helping every dancer feel that they belong.
What happens as my child gets older at MK Dance?
MK Dance offers a progressive dance journey as children grow. Dancers can begin with mk minis, move into the Main School from age 4 and progress through RAD ballet and ISTD tap and modern grades. Older and more advanced dancers can also join MK Associates for performances, industry workshops and a pathway towards West End opportunities.
Can my child do more than one type of dance at MK Dance?
Yes. Many pupils combine ballet, tap and modern, and musical theatre is a great way to explore performance skills too. The Main School timetable is structured so dancers can progress across different styles.
Adults
Can adults join MK Dance if they have never danced before?
Absolutely. MK Dance welcomes adult beginners as well as experienced dancers. Adult ballet and tap classes are for people who want to try something new, return to dance after a break, improve their technique or simply enjoy a fun and sociable weekly class.
What adult dance classes does MK Dance offer?
MK Dance offers adult ballet and tap classes for dancers aged 18+, welcoming complete beginners through to those with previous experience. We also offer RAD Silver Swans® ballet for adults aged 55 and over, with classes designed to support mobility, posture, coordination, strength and confidence.

The teacher, Kathryn is absolutely fantastic - she makes the class fun but also teaches them the basics of ballet and tap so well. My daughter is 4 and in the youngest class and I can see her getting better week on week. Couldn't recommend it enough!”
ParentParent of a 4 year old, via Facebook post “Attending MK dance is a great way to build confidence and meet new people. New to dance as an adult can be daunting, but dancing through MK takes this away, they welcome dancers of all ages, experienced and non experienced.
